A word from Kerri

Hard to believe that we are halfway through the final term of the year! And what a year we have had. Some exciting times ahead with our path building and working bee.

We are in the process of planning for 2021 and we are looking forward to sharing our learning, plans and team information with families before the end of the month.

At this time we are also beginning to collate and aggregate our learning data, it will be interesting to see if the lock down and online learning has had an impact on the overall achievement of our learners.

Our data so far indicates that our children have continued to make expected progress, despite the disruption to the year. The staff have reviewed our charter and strategic plan and are very happy with what we have been able to achieve in a COVID-19 year.

 Hayfields

We had a wonderful celebration with the parents at the Hayfields event last Saturday night. A special thank you to the BCG for their incredible organisation, it was a great night and a good way for parents to be together, meet new people and have some fun!

Missing Blunt umbrella from Hayfields:  a black Blunt umbrella with a gouge on the handle was taken from the event at the end of the evening, if this could please be returned to the school office the owner would be very appreciative!

Thanks from the BCG

Thanks to all the parents and staff who came together for our first Hayfields party on Saturday - an awesome evening with really positive feedback!

Special thanks to Paula, for superb organisation and transforming the school hall and to friends and families of the school for their much-appreciated donations:  Galbraith’s Alehouse, Industry Creative graphic design, Creature Post, Darkhorse, Mondelez/Cadbury, Pandoro Bakery, Soho Wines, Jess’ Underground Kitchen and Ripe Deli.

And thanks to our generous school families for lively auction bidding for 'Principal for a day' and the Principal’s carpark.

 Traffic Update- Saratoga Avenue

Auckland Transport is carrying out roadworks at the Saratoga Ave/Clifton Rd Intersection shortly. This work is planned to start on Thursday 12th November and will take approximately 5 weeks to complete. The start and end date is subject to change due to weather conditions and unexpected delays .This work includes construction of a new T-section raised table at the intersection, new kerbs and footpath and stormwater upgrades.

Temporary traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place around the work site. Please follow all signposted traffic management to travel safely around the worksite. Parking will be restricted around the work site, please park off street and away from the worksite until traffic management has been lifted.

Extra care needed at the top of Clifton Road

The raised table at the top of Clifton Road that goes from outside the school to JUK Cafe is not a pedestrian crossing, therefore vehicles turning into Clifton Road or out onto Jervois Road do not have to give way to pedestrians.

We have received several complaints from motorists who have had to stop suddenly because of parents / children walking out in front of them.

Walking/Biking and Scooting to School Weeks - starting next week!

With the disruption on Clifton Road, it is a good chance to get us out of our cars and walk, scoot or bike to school.

If you bike, walk or scoot to school and home you will receive House Points.

If you are unable to walk, scoot or bike - special house points will be given to children, who’s families use Jervois Road extension to drop off children - children can use the gates by the hall and the playcentre to enter and exit school.

Eco warriors will come around to collect numbers for those of you who try and reduce our traffic at the school gate!

Lost property

We have quite a collection of lost property.  Please check it out for items belonging to your family.

As some of the items of clothing are wet we will not be keeping them beyond the end of the week.  Therefore any unclaimed items that remain on Friday will be donated to charity.

Bayfield House Day - Auckland City Mission Xmas

Friday 20 November 10am - 12.30pm (Following normal assembly)

Our final house day for 2020 coincides with the launch of our annual City Mission Xmas appeal. Students can come dressed up on the day if they choose to, but it is totally optional.

Non-perishable food items can be placed in the bins outside the office - please refer to the preferred foods list on the City Mission website. Thanks for your support Bayfield.

Teams and Information for 2021

Many of you will be wondering what happens with organisation for 2021. Before the end of November, we will let you know which teachers will be in which team and what this will mean for your child. As we run straight year levels for every year, except for year 5 and 6, your child will just progress to their new year level for 2021.

Book Week

& Grandparents & Special Friends Day highlights

What a fun week we had promoting books and reading.

It was heartening to see so many Grandparents welcomed in on Monday to see the school, check out new books in the library and be entertained by our talented children.  Thank you for the generous donations which help fill our library with a wide variety of fresh reading options.

Tuesday, we were lucky to have three authors visiting the school.  David Riley, David Minty and Liliane Parkinson. David Riley related an inspiring story about how reading changed the path for failing student Ben Carson, eventually going on to become a famous neurosurgeon.  He challenged reluctant readers to begin the habit of reading a book a week.  Liliane Parkinson brought her book 'A Magpie Collection' and talked about the process of writing a story. David Minty shared his cool picture book ‘My New Red Car’ and thoughts with our younger students.

Wednesday was buddy reading with senior students pairing with the juniors enjoying stories together.

Book character parade on Friday finished the week off beautifully, with new imaginative costumes and old favourites too.  The hall was filled with colour and excitement.

Special congratulations to students who entered our book poster and trailer competitions. There were so many creative entries and it was very difficult to choose ones to display.

The poster winners were

India Rhodes, George Higgins, Hugo Hickey, Emily Van Zoggel, Lulu Andrews, Evie Wood & Zara Busch and our trailer winner was Ruby Unsworth.

We also gave 16 highly commended certificates. Pop into the library to view their marvellous efforts.

Thanks to everyone involved in making this a wonderful event. Especially Jane, the dedicated teachers, Gareth, supportive families, gorgeous grandparents & special friends and Mary at the Dorothy Butler Children’s Bookshop who helped run the book fair.
