A Word from Kerri

Well, we are finally coming to the end of what feels like an incredibly long term 2 (12 weeks in total) and I know that our children and teachers are looking forward to a “proper” holiday and a clean start to term 3.

It is somewhat surreal when we look back at our year so far and I know that we feel ready to return to true “business as usual” as we head into the second half of the year.

Achievement Review 2019Each year the school reviews all achievement data for the school year. We aggregate this data and report to the Board of Trustees on the overall achievement in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Our achievement data is outstanding and we are very proud of the teachers, our children and their parents and the success of our learning programmes.

Each year we set an annual target of moving more of our learners to above the expected level and in 2019 we had an average of 31.2% achieving above the expected level across Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Staffing Update:
Rebecca Newall, one of our wonderful Kowhai (year 2) teachers has decided to leave the “big smoke” of Auckland and relocate her family to Murchison. We are very excited for Rebecca and her family, as they undertake this new adventure.

Rebecca’s final day at Bayfield is this Friday 26 June.

Kate Chatterley, who was supposed to be travelling around Europe until COVID-19 put a stop to her plans, will be teaching in the Kowhai team for the rest of the year. Whilst we feel for Kate not being able to travel, we are so happy to have her back and I know the children will be very happy to have her in the Kowhai team.

Gate System:
Thank you again for using our gate system as we moved back to school from Level 2 - Level 1.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the welcome each morning and it has been nice to see parents and children as they arrive each day. This will be our final week manning the gates, but please feel free to continue to use the gate entries and drop off system, if this works for your family.

Organisation - Fridge List
Next week we will be emailing out our first Fridge list with all school events listed, we hope that this assists parents and the school to be as organised as possible as we head into term 3.

BCG - Bayfield Community Group
Our fantastic BCG is holding another meeting on Monday the 29 June, 6:45pm in our school staffroom.

The purpose of the BCG is to create connections between the community and the school, organising events, fundraising and sharing ideas, connecting and feeding back to our Principal and Board of Trustees.

All parents are welcome to attend the BCG meetings, no long term commitment required - don’t worry, you won't be given a job to do, or become part of any organising committee!

Come along, we are very interested in your thoughts and ideas.

Communication and online learning review
Thank you to those of you who completed the school survey, we appreciate the feedback and we are currently in the process of analysing the results and plan to share the summary and future actions with you all as soon as possible. As a school we are determined to build on our strengths and rectify the challenges with our communication platforms as best we can.

Curriculum Term 2 and 3

Next term our overall theme is Systems. Possible Contexts:

  • Stars/solar system

  • Weather systems

  • Water cycle

  • Body systems

  • Political systems

  • Electrical systems

  • Digital systems

  • Systems in nature e.g. ants, bees, butterflies, frogs

  • Plumbing systems

  • Underground systems

Our teams have started this learning journey already with teams exploring solar systems and body systems, with some incredible parent experts coming in to inspire our learners with their understanding of the brain, heart and other body systems.

We look forward to seeing and hearing about other systems as our teams explore over the term.

Art Term 3
Next term we are hosting our Bayfield Art Exhibition 24 - 28 August. This will include our school calendar art (get your orders in for Christmas) our collaborative canvases, and other wonderful sculpture and art works.

From the 10 August - 21 August our teams will be focusing on Art and welcome parents to come and share their talents, ideas and painting skills during this week.

Please contact your team's learning leader if you are interested in supporting our children during these weeks.
